project 1 – letter

LETTER ASSIGNED: B

SHORT HISTORY OF THE LETTER B

The letter B evolved from the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics signifying shelter. The letter B is one of the most recognized letters in most of the alphabets created. The Phoenicians called the letter B  Beth which meant in their language house and the Greeks later on renamed it to beta. The form of the letter B changed through out history from being a squared enclosed shape to a more triangular shape. Then later on the Greeks added another triangle and aligned it to the right of the character. The Greek letter is the most similar character to our present day letter B. Then after further developing the letter, the Greeks renamed it bay. They also changed the inside form of the letter to a more cursive form. The letter B is the second letter to our alphabet in its form is usually smooth and symmetrical.

 FINAL FIVE DIGITAL DESIGNS

  1. I think that in various of your final designs figures are quite reversible and even without showing most of the letter, it gives the viewer the idea that the shape that you’re using is in fact a “B”. I think what’s interesting about the five final designs is that 3 of the seemed to focus on the intersections of the two bumps of the “B” which is the most prominent part of the “B” and easily recognizable yet the last one seems to use two straight edges of the “B” and mimics the bumps quite nicely. Overall, the project page was easy to navigate through and everything is presented very well.
